NMMA: Wholesale powerboat shipments are upPosted on
Since January, wholesale shipments of traditional powerboats have been trending steadily upward, compared with record lows a year earlier, according to the National Marine Manufacturers Association.
Wholesale shipments of traditional powerboats for NMMA’s control group of manufacturers were up 31 percent from a year earlier, and corresponding dollars were up 37 percent.
New powerboat registrations totaled 50,700 in the third quarter of 2010, down 18 percent from a year earlier. On a rolling 12-month basis, new powerboat registrations were down 13 percent from a year earlier, totaling 173,300.
Advance estimates indicate that sales were down 14 percent at the close of 2010, the NMMA said.
Recreational boat and marine engine export volumes were up 58 percent in 2010 and dollars were up 67 percent from a year earlier. Corresponding import volumes were up 80 percent; dollars were up 67 percent.
