Tohatsu says its Japanese facilities avoided harm

Posted on

Tohatsu America Corp. reported that its headquarters and manufacturing facility in Japan were not damaged by the natural disasters that Japan experienced last week.

The earthquake and subsequent tsunamis that caused extensive damage to Japan’s northeastern coastline did not reach the headquarters of Tohatsu, located in Tokyo, or Tohatsu Marine Corp., the Tohatsu factory, in Komagane City in the Nagano Prefecture.

“We would like to thank everyone for their concerns about our headquarters and factory in Japan,” Tohatsu America general manager Jim Morgenthaler said in a statement. “Both the headquarters in Tokyo and the factory in Komagane are located in areas that were unaffected by the earthquake and tsunamis that hit in the northern part of Japan last week, and we’ve received communication that all personnel are safe and unharmed.”

Operations at the factory were suspended immediately after the earthquake and are set to resume March 23 after an assessment of available supplies.

Many areas of the country are experiencing delays in transportation and rolling blackouts, but Tohatsu has had no major delays in production.

The company has donated 20 firefighting pumps to the nuclear power station that is currently in crisis.

Tohatsu America is the distributor of Tohatsu and Nissan Marine outboard motors in the United States and Canada.
