Agenda set for American Boating CongressPosted on
The 2011 American Boating Congress is set for May 4-5 in Washington, D.C.
Organized by the National Marine Manufacturers Association, the ABC offers attendees an opportunity to discuss and learn about state and federal legislation, get firsthand insight from policymakers and network with other industry leaders.
Highlights of this year’s event include:
- A tax policy briefing presented by Ryan Abraham, professional staff of the Senate Finance Committee, and Dorothy Coleman, vice president for tax and domestic economic policy at the National Association of Manufacturers. They will provide an overview of current and possible future legislative tax initiatives during this Congress. Attendees will learn how recent tax changes and proposed tax initiatives affect business and the boating industry overall.
- An update from the Environmental Protection Agency about the Clean Boating Act. Special guest Denise Keenher, of the EPA’s Office of Wetlands, Oceans and Watersheds, will talk about the agency’s development of boating management practices. The session will give attendees an opportunity to talk about what should be in the guidelines.
- Remarks by Congressional Boating Caucus co-chairmen Rep. Candice Miller, R-Mich., and Rep. Joe Donnelly, D-Ind. Rear Adm. Kevin Cook, of the Coast Guard, and Greg Ip, of The Economist, will also address the group.
- Individual and small-group visits with members of Congress and their staffs. Attendees have a once-a-year opportunity to share their stories with legislators, talk about the industry’s most pressing policy problems and put a name to the face of individuals’ marine businesses.
