NMMA urges support of tax-simplification bill

Posted on

The National Marine Manufacturers Association and its partners recently sent a letter to U.S. Reps. Lamar Smith, R-Texas, and Howard Coble, R-N.C., of the House Judiciary Committee and Subcommittee on Courts, Commercial and Administrative Law in support of the Business Activity Tax Simplification Act of 2011.

Under H.R. 1439, which the NMMA said has strong bipartisan support, a business that has no real presence in a state would not be taxed by the state in which limited business activities take place, but in the state where it is physically present and has substantial activities.

In other legislative news, the NMMA attended a meeting this week on the America’s Great Outdoors program with Interior Secretary Ken Salazar and other department officials.

The program was launched last year to develop a 21st century conservation and recreation agenda through lasting conservation solutions, including those involving boating and angling.

During the town hall portion of the meeting, the NMMA encouraged the administration to support the reauthorization of the Sport Fish Restoration and Boating Trust Fund, administered by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.

“Secretary Salazar indicated his strong support for the reauthorization and said that his department would encourage administration support for such,” the NMMA said.

It seems that just about everything government does is counterproductive to the economy in the US. We are over taxed, over legislated, over regulated, and constantly suffer from government intrusion in our lives and businesses. I can think of nothing that government does to enhance my life or business. But, I can certainly think about the arrogant, selfish, non-productive government employees who demand more wages, more benefits, and more security.

Our government is destroying the US.

How shortsighted. What about The Univ of Washington. The Port of seattle, The ferry system, the airport Your local hospital and the UW Medical School just to name a few locally.
