U.S. Powerboat Show marks 40 years

Posted on

The marine industry celebrated the 40th anniversary of the United States Powerboat Show by bringing the biggest boats and greatest number of boats to the show since the stock market drop in 2008, organizers said.

Nearly a dozen boats above 65 feet encircled more than 250 boats of all sizes and styles, and the docks were packed with people during the show, which took place Oct. 13-16 in Annapolis, Md.

“The best news for an industry rocked hard by economic challenges was that attendees bought boats of all sizes,” organizers said. “Many boat sales were reported, along with contracts pending, scheduled sea trials and greatly expanded prospect lists. Most agree that it felt a bit like the good old days.”

Attendance figures were not reported.

“We did really great for our first time in Annapolis,” Intrepid Powerboats’ Michael Obalsky said in a statement. “We had tons of people on the Seven Marine engines and had a customer come from Connecticut just to see them and ordered a 400 Cuddy with those engines. Our office sold a 430 SY, along with a couple others.”

“Sabre and Back Cove are both very pleased with the quality and volume of attendees and with the geographic spread of the show goers,” added Bentley Collins, of Sabre and Black Cove Yachts. ”We had visitors from every corner of the U.S.A. and Canada, and they were highly motivated and very qualified new-boat shoppers.”
