CMD debuts engine at New Orleans show

Posted on

Cummins MerCruiser Diesel unveiled its new QSB6.7 Wednesday at the International WorkBoat Show in New Orleans.

The new QSB6.7 offers better performance, improved sociability and improved operations than CMD’s QSB5.9 model, all without sacrificing fuel economy, the company said.

The initial launch of the QSB6.7 will provide both commercial and recreational ratings from 380 to 480 hp.

A pair of QSB5.9 480-hp engines installed in an inboard 44-foot express cruiser test boat accelerated the boat to 20 mph in 14 seconds, and the same boat, powered by QSB6.7 480-hp engines, accelerated to 20 mph in just 8 seconds, with little change to fuel economy, according to CMD.

The QSB6.7 meets EPA Tier 3 emissions standards.

The VW marine diesel engines are to be marketed under the new Brunswick label “Mercury Diesel”. Any VW engines sold under the CMD label will become the responsibility of Mercury Marine (and no longer CMD label). The MerCruiser brand will only carry gasoline engines.
