AIM names editor, publisher of Power & Motoryacht

Posted on

Active Interest Media announced that George Sass was named editor-in-chief of Power & Motoryacht and Arnie Hammerman was named publisher.

Sass’s and Hammerman’s hires follows AIM’s announcement that it acquired Power & Motoryacht, Sail, and online marine properties from Source Interlink Companies.

Sass brings nearly 20 years of marine industry and publishing experience to his new role. Most recently he served as editor-in-chief of Yachting, leading the editorial team in the development of award-winning content, with consistent double-digit print and digital audience growth. Sass formerly developed and executed marketing programs for a variety of companies in the boatbuilding, marine electronics, and sports apparel industries. He is an avid boater with 35,000-plus offshore miles under his belt.

Arnie Hammerman rejoins PMY as publisher having served as the magazine’s West Coast sales director from 1996-2008. In 2008, he was hired by the Bonnier Corporation’s Marine Group as Western regional director. Hammerman is an avid boater and offshore sailor, and has been a scuba diver for most of his life.

PMY will relocate from Source’s New York City offices to AIM’s office in Essex, Conn., which is the home of Soundings and Soundings Trade Only, while Sail Magazine will remain in its current location in Boston under the leadership of Publisher Josh Adams.

Both groups will report to AIM’s Marine Media Group Publisher Gary DeSanctis.

“George Sass and Arnie Hammerman are two of the most talented people in the marine publishing industry,” DeSanctis said in a statement. “Their addition to our staff, combined with the acquisition of PMY and Sail, has positioned AIM’s Marine Group as an industry powerhouse.”

SOUCE iNTERLINK’S STABLE OF PUBLICATIONS IS SUPER HEAVY WITH MAGAZINES THAT INVOLVE HEAVY OUT LAYS OF DISCRETIONARY INCOME. READERSHIP IS DOWN AS IS MONEY FROM ADVERTISMENTS. QUITE POSSIBLE MORE OF THESE WILL BE ON THE SALE BLOCK

Congratulations, Arnie! You’ve never shied away from tough challenges. Now you’ve got one that will test both you and your industry. I have complete confidence in your success because you know how to work with people. In the end, that’s what matters.
