Discover Boating success draws Facebook’s attention

Posted on

Discover Boating’s Facebook campaign has been so successful that Facebook asked to meet with the Discover Boating team.

That’s according to Grow Boating president Carl Blackwell, who hosted a webinar Wednesday afternoon to inform the industry about how Discover Boating is using social media marketing tools.

With more than 301,000 “likes” as of this morning, the page has taken off.

“We have gotten the attention of Facebook Inc.,” Blackwell said to more than 325 people who sat in on the webinar. “They want to sit down with us and learn a little bit more about how we can be so successful in our campaign, so we’re doing something right there.”

Blackwell also unveiled several 15-second spots that will run before YouTube videos that people have searched for and clicked on to view.

“Because they can’t click off the ad if they want to see the content they’ve chosen, consumers are 50 percent more likely to pay attention to the ad than they would on cable,” Blackwell said.

Blackwell also demonstrated the MovieMaker app that is due out around Memorial Day. The Facebook app, which he called “the crown jewel,” will enable boaters to make videos with their own boating pictures.
