Chicago in-water show reports strong attendance

The Chicago In-Water Boat Show was a success, according to show organizers, as 6,607 visitors spurred summer sales at the inaugural event.

With a new state-of-the-art venue at the 31st Street Harbor marina, the Progressive Insurance Chicago In-Water Boat Show took place June 7-10 in downtown Chicago.

“The Progressive Insurance Chicago In-Water Boat Show has the potential to be a staple event for the marine industry, Midwesterners and the city of Chicago,” show manager Keith Ogulnick said in a statement. “We’re excited to see what’s in store for 2013.”

The event showcased more than 100 boats on-land and in-water, featured dozens of accessory, technology and travel booths, and on-water experiential features such as paddleboarding and complimentary boating courses for new and experienced boaters.

Several exhibitors reported strong sales at the event.

“We saw lots of qualified prospects and talked to many interested boaters. I definitely see the growth potential for the show. We’ll be back,” said Greg Allen of Everglades Boats.

“This is a magnificent harbor and place for a boat show — the perfect venue to showcase our product lines,” said Michelle English, of Skipper Buds. “We sold boats and through diligent follow-up, we should sell additional units.”

    How is this a “success” and or “Strong” when they expected 12,000 attendees? Sounds like spin.
