Cruising Outpost magazine set for December debutPosted on
Cruising Outpost, the new quarterly publication by Bob Bitchin, is set to launch production in December and is offering subscriptions.
“Last week we announced that The Bitchin Group had formed a new group to fill a very large void left when a certain magazine that shall remain unnamed (lol) disappeared from the shelves at your favorite chandlery and from the mailboxes of discerning boaters worldwide,” Bitchin wrote in an email to subscribers of his online forum.
The publication was set to move forward after the “great response” Cruising Outpost received when asking fans to subscribe for five years of the publication to help fund print costs. Subscription prices start at $25, Bitchin wrote in the email.
Latitudes & Attitudes, the popular magazine that celebrated the sailing lifestyle without focusing on boats, ceased publication in June. The magazine, which was launched by Bitchin, whose birth name is Robert Lipkin, and his wife, Jody, in 1996, was sold to Sextant Publishing, which is run by CEO Dennis “DJ” Doran, in January, according to a Bitchin email to Soundings Trade Only.
Capt. Woody Henderson, who was on the original staff of Latitudes & Attitudes, wrote June 20 in his blog at captwoody.blogspot.com: “Today, we find ourselves locked out of the office.” Former editor Sue Morgan told Soundings Trade Only she didn’t know where the publishers were.
Cruising Outpost will have “cruiser parties,” beginning this weekend in Everett, Wash., at the 12th Street Yacht Basin.
The next party will be Sept. 7-8 at the Island Yacht Club in Alameda, Calif., and Sept. 15 at the Newport (R.I.) International Boat Show.
