Hybrid conference returns to AmsterdamPosted on
The International Council of Marine Industry Associations’ second International Hybrid Marine Propulsion Conference will be held Nov. 12 immediately before the Marine Equipment Trade Show at the Amsterdam RAI.
Organizers say the conference is a must for anyone considering investing in hybrids, including boatbuilders, equipment suppliers, systems integrators, equipment, engine and propeller makers, designers and naval architects.
“With hybrid cars continuing to generate a great deal of consumer interest, there is increasing pressure for our industry to provide cost-effective hybrid boats,” ICOMIA secretary general Tony Rice said in a statement. “In response to this pressure, this year’s conference will concentrate on practical solutions for marine hybrid propulsion and provide an opportunity for delegates to review current state-of-the-art designs and discuss future technologies and trends.”
This year’s keynote speaker is Antti Peltomäki, deputy director general of the Directorate-General for Enterprise and Industry, the branch of the European Commission that focuses on sustainable and inclusive growth for European enterprises. She will discuss the role of hybrids in delivering sustainable transport.
Highlights will include Dutch yacht builder Holland Jachtbouw discussing its J-class yacht, Rainbow. Based upon the lines of the original America’s Cup winner in 1934, the 40-meter combines a high-end superyacht interior with a hybrid propulsion and power system inside a racing boat hull.
ICOMIA and European Boatbuilder also will present the fourth edition of Workshop on New Technologies and Manufacturing, which will be held Nov. 14 at METS.
The workshop is tailored for boatbuilders operating internationally and will feature topics such as future yacht design, natural fibers, noise reduction, pre-pregs in production building, quality assurance and boatbuilding regulations in China. The workshop’s primary objective is to discuss technologies and business practices that are easy to implement in manufacturing.
