BRP unveils new 2013 product lineup

Bombardier Recreational Products dealers and distributors gathered in Maryland to attend the unveiling of model-year 2013 Sea-Doo watercraft and Can-Am Spyder roadsters and two new products for its Can-Am off-road lineup.

Among BRP’s Sea-Doo updates is the GTI Limited 155 watercraft in a new color, anthracite grey. The model comes with BRP’s industry-exclusive Intelligent Brake & Reverse technology and cruise control with the Intelligent Throttle Control system with ECO Mode for fuel efficiency.

BRP said it continues to offer the only tow-specific watercraft in the water-sports world with its 2013 Sea-Doo Wake models.

“More than 800 on-site dealers and distributors were delighted to see how many innovations and new products were introduced during this meeting,” North America division vice president and general manager Yves Leduc said in a statement. “It really shows our commitment to remain the leader in the industry and to provide our network with a variety of products to grow their business.”

Much of the focus remained on new vehicle models as BRP repositions itself in the recreational vehicle and marine markets. Earlier this month BRP decided to leave sportboat manufacturing and shutter its Illinois plant, eliminating 350 jobs. The decision came after an announcement in May that the company will transfer watercraft assembly from Valcourt, Quebec, to a plant to be built in Mexico.

The company also said at that time that it will stop producing its own accessories and clothes and contract out the distribution of spare parts.

BRP had stopped disclosing revenue after it was bought out in 2003 by a consortium led by U.S. private equity fund Bain Capital, but had said the sportboat business represented 3 percent of company sales.
