Coast Guard Academy fares well in national academic rankingsPosted on
The U.S. Coast Guard Academy was listed as one of the top institutions of higher education by U.S. News & World Report, The Princeton Review and Forbes Magazine.
The Coast Guard said the U.S. News & World Report rankings provide one of the most thorough examinations of how more than 1,400 accredited four-year schools in the country compare in a set of widely accepted indicators of excellence. This year, the academy was ranked No. 2 in the Regional Colleges (North) category in the Best Colleges 2013 guidebook and 10th in the Best in Undergraduate Engineering Programs category.
The indicators U.S. News & World Report uses to capture academic quality fall into a number of categories: assessment by administrators at peer institutions, retention of students, faculty resources, student selectivity, financial resources and alumni giving. The indicators also include input measures that reflect a school’s student body, its faculty and its financial resources, along with outcome measures that signal how well the institution does its job of educating students.
The Princeton Review’s Best 377 Colleges ranked the academy in the top 10 in the following categories: Most Accessible Professors, Best Run Colleges, Stone-Cold Sober Schools and as one of the Best Northeastern Colleges; Forbes Magazine placed the academy in the top 27 percent of 650 schools nationwide.
