Dometic Marine donates equipment to relief boatPosted on
Marine air-conditioning equipment supplier Dometic Marine is supporting Iris Ministries’ humanitarian relief vessel, Iris Compassion, by supplying on-board equipment.
The company donated three air-conditioning units, all fitted at no charge by Heinen & Hopman Engineering of Spakenburg, Holland, one of Dometic’s European distributors, according to the company.
Previously owned by the king of Spain, the Iris Compassion, a 60-foot motoryacht, recently completed a three-year refurbishment project in Antwerp, Belgium.
Greater accommodation was required, so the cabin numbers and configuration were altered to provide berths for 22. One of the cabins sleeps eight, so an extra In-Duct Breathe Easy Air Purifier was installed to help cleanse and freshen the cabin air.
“Dometic was originally approached to offer a single refrigerator, but when we found out that the vessel had no air conditioning, we were keen to do more,” Dometic senior vice president of global marine sales Ned Trigg said in a statement. “The vessel will be operating in Mozambique, where it is hot and humid, so clearly an efficient A/C system was required. We talked with our colleagues at Heinen & Hopman, who had no hesitation to support the project with free labor and accessory parts.”
The Iris Compassion will visit remote areas of Mozambique and offer medical care to people who have no access to health facilities or hospitals. The Iris Ministries organization has a team of doctors and nurses from around the world who offer their services to the vessel.
