New publisher joins Sail magazinePosted on
Active Interest Media named Chris Allen publisher of Sail magazine.
Allen spent most of his career at Time Inc., including 20 years at Cooking Light, where as senior vice president and publisher he led the company to 17 consecutive years of growth.
He started his career in sales roles at Yachting Magazine and as national advertising manager for Cruising World Magazine.
“My career really began, as any true sailor’s should, on my family’s Sunfish, and then as a wharf rat teaching sailing and working at marinas and sailing clubs throughout high school and college,” Allen said in an AIM statement. “To join Sail as publisher is a wonderful opportunity to combine my publishing career with my love of sailing.”
“Chris is a talented publisher with a proven track record,” AIM marine media group publisher Gary DeSanctis said in a statement. “His business acumen and his passion for sailing is the perfect combination to bring Sail Magazine to the next level. We are thrilled to have him at the helm.”
Allen recently earned his Coast Guard Master 50-ton credentials, is an advisory board member of Sail Newport, Newport, R.I., and sails his 39-foot cutter all over the Northeast “and maybe a bit farther someday.”
Former Sail Magazine publisher Josh Adams left to become managing director of U.S. Olympic Sailing at US Sailing.
AIM, which is run by CEO and founder Efrem “Skip” Zimbalist III, publishes several enthusiast magazines, including Soundings and Soundings Trade Only.
