Sail America hands out Best in Show honors in Annapolis

Jeanneau won Best in Show overall as Sail America presented the 2012 U.S. Sailboat Show’s Best in Show awards Oct. 5 at the Sail America members meeting.

More than 150 industry professionals attended. Sail America presented the awards to six exhibiting companies. Jeanneau won the overall award for excellent signage and branding with dock flags, sail flags and boat graphics and a welcoming customer lounge with comfortable seating.

The other Best in Show awards were:

• Best booth display, 200 square feet and under: Dubarry

• Best booth display, more than 200 square feet: Harken

• Best boat display, fewer than five boats: Alerion

• Best boat display, five or more boats: Tartan/C&C

• Honorable mention: Zim Sailing

Sail America judged the contest with the help of four independent judges who commended the companies for having well-dressed, friendly and professional personnel, as well as inviting booths and informative displays.

Dubarry, a shoe manufacturer, received special mention for a live demonstration of its boots in water. Harken, a maker of sailboat hardware, received accolades for its use of booth graphics. Alerion and Tarton/C&C received praise for classy displays and inviting booths, according to a statement.

Honorable mention went to Zim Sailing, which provides one-design sailboats, for knowledgeable and helpful staff.

    Once more….why is always the “big guys” who get noticed? Did anyone doing the evaluating take the time to look at the boat builders who put their heart and soul into crafting beautiful limited production smaller traditional boats? Some of those well laid out and colorful displays were certainly worth of note.
