Northern Marine set to be profiled on Travel ChannelPosted on
Northern Marine will be featured Sunday on the Travel Channel’s “Extreme Yachts” series at 9 p.m. EST.
The opening show will highlight Andy McDonalds highly customized yacht-building company and one of his latest builds, the 95-foot Atlas, a long-range expedition yacht.
They came out at different phases of construction, toured the facility, toured boats, interviewed staff and became familiar with the process which Im very proud of concentrating on the 95 Atlas, McDonald told Soundings Trade Only in October at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show.
This vessel features a hot tub on the flybridge and a dumb waiter that travels three levels and is concealed by a panel, McDonald told Trade Only. It also boasts a 48-inch barbecue on the sundeck and a 60-inch 3D television that drops down from the overhead on the sundeck.
A treadmill on board has been heavily modified so that it folds out of the wall.
The yacht ran about $12 million.
Its a 95-foot pleasure craft, a fully customized toy, McDonald said. Its not a production boat. Its something [my client] couldnt find, so we built it.
We dont say no to anything, McDonald added. Unless its a safety issue we will build anything. There are no bad ideas.
Within the past year Northern Marine launched a commercial marine business with a multivessel contract and acquired the assets of Glas-Ply boats to offer custom-made fiberglass models from 7 to 28 feet.
Extreme Yachts travels the country to see how top designers and nautical engineers create some of the most amazing vessels ever to hit the high seas. Each episode follows three builds.
