The Norman-Spencer Agency, a national property and casualty insurance provider, announced that T. Clarke Smith will lead the agency’s marine operations in a new role as president.
Smith will direct Norman-Spencer’s marine division, which manages the national, industry-leading First Marine and AquaPac programs serving the recreational marine and boat and yacht insurance markets.
“Clarke Smith’s leadership and significant expertise in the marine insurance industry will drive further growth and success for Norman-Spencer,” Norman-Spencer president Brian Norman said in a statement. “Norman-Spencer has served the marina and boating industry for more than 30 years. Under Clarke’s supervision we are looking forward to expanding our products and services for the recreational marine industry.”
An industry veteran with more than 25 years of experience in marine insurance underwriting, Smith most recently was vice president of Chubb Custom Markets.
“I’ve been involved in the boating community my entire career,” Smith said in a statement. “My direct involvement in the industry, combined with Norman-Spencer’s excellent marine programs and consistent commitment, will provide the members of the boating industry with a valuable resource for the products and services they need in order to operate their businesses cost-effectively and efficiently.”
Smith and Norman-Spencer share a long-standing history of support and involvement in the recreational marine and boat and yacht industry trade associations. Smith is a member of the board of the Association of Marina Industries and is actively involved in the National Marine Manufacturers Association’s risk management committee.

Morris Yachts named James Fitzgerald its new paint supervisor, leading the company’s Awlgrip Paint Department in Bass Harbor, Maine.
Fitzgerald brings almost two decades of paint experience with him to Morris.
“It doesn’t get better than this,” he said in a statement. “It’s a privilege to work for a company where expectations for quality are so high and where your work is truly appreciated.”
Fitzgerald joins Morris Yachts from a strong marine background in painting and Awlgrip applications; previous employers include Atlantic Boat and The Hinckley Company. Fitzgerald also owned a painting business for many years, serving boating clients up and down the New England coast and beyond.
