Information available for rebuilding New Jersey marinas

In storm-stricken New Jersey, business owners and residents are still facing daily challenges in their efforts to rebuild.

“There are new issues every day … from debris management to permitting questions to dredging questions,” Marine Trades Association of New Jersey director Melissa Danko told Soundings Trade Only. “We’re trying to deal with those things now.”

The trade group has pulled information from the state Department of Environmental Protection regarding storm issues and rebuilding and posted it to their website, Danko said.

Damaged marine structures that legally existed prior to Hurricane Sandy can be reconstructed without obtaining normal permits provided:

• They are reconstructed in the same footprint without enlargement or relocation;

• The number of dwelling units or parking spaces is not increased;

• The area covered by buildings, concrete or asphalt is not increased.

Bulkheads must also be replaced to previously existing elevations.
