Florida brokers announce mergerPosted on
Greg Postle, owner of Starboard Yacht Brokerage in Punta Gorda, Fla., said he merged his company with Pier One Yacht Sales, which is in the same Gulf Coast town.
Postle launched Starboard Yacht in 1992 with offices on South Tamiami Trail in Punta Gorda. He later relocated to Punta Gorda Marina, then Laishley Park Marina. In December 2011, to expand his market area, Postle moved his company to Burnt Store Road, just two blocks north of the Burnt Store Marina.
In a statement, Postle called the merger with Pier One a “win-win situation.”
“The most important part of this will be for our clients. They are the ones who will benefit the most,” Postle said. “We will not be closing the office on Burnt Store Road. If anything, we will be expanding it.”
The business plan would give both Starboard clients and Pier One — clients who are from Burnt Store Marina, Pirate’s Cove, Cape Coral, St. James City, Matlacha and Fort Myers — a closer office while still getting all of the benefits of the Fishermen’s Village office. The Burnt Store Road office will now be called Pier One Yacht Sales at Burnt Store.
Pier One Yacht Sales was founded by Len Garofoli, former vice president of Navigator Yachts, in 2004 as a dealer for Navigator, Californian and Legacy yachts. Garofoli expanded the brokerage segment of the business when he moved his offices from Gasparilla Marina to Fishermen’s Village in 2006.
In October of 2011 Garofoli brought in Tony Mondello, former vice president of IBM, as a full partner.
“This is the place to be,” Mondello said in a statement. “A resort marina with over 2.5 million people a year, from all over the world, walking by our windows. We have a selling tool that no other firm in the area can offer.”
