In-water show returns to South Carolina

Posted on

After a six-year hiatus, the South Carolina Marine Association will once again hold the South Carolina In-Water Boat Show from April 12-14 in Charleston.

It is the return of an event that fell away when the economy tumbled and boats, even small ones, became a luxury item, according to the SCMA. New-boat sales plummeted and owners sold their boats or tucked them away in the garage.

The SCMA has gauged the region and says that for the first time since 2007, the most recent year that the show was held, the group is seeing a surge of interest and sales of watercraft. The development has prompted the group to reinvent an event that it owned and operated for more than eight years.

“We are thrilled to bring back the boat show in 2013,” SCMA director Suzi DuRant said in a statement. “It is the right time and we have a very enthusiastic collection of exhibitors and sponsors. We are pleased to work in conjunction with the Daniel Island Co. to offer a brand new environment with beautiful green space along the Wando River to present exciting marine exhibits on land and in the water.”

The show will feature boats in the water, boats on land, watercraft of all dimensions, marine education and safety exhibits, children’s activities and entertainment, all at Daniel Island’s Waterfront Park.
