Northeast boat sales increase after hurricanePosted on
A CBS News report this weekend interviewed industry insiders, who detailed how the devastation wrought by Hurricane Sandy has actually provided a sales boost.
“Best December we’ve ever had,” Boston Whaler vice president of sales Jeff Vaughn said in the television interview.
Since an estimated $650 million is being written by insurance companies to boat owners, many of whom still want to get back on the water, an unexpected injection of cash is helping manufacturers and creating new jobs — both in selling new boat and repairing broken ones, said Vaughn.
NMMA president Thom Dammrich and Scott Croft of BoatUS also contribute to the report, which was conducted at the New York Boat Show that wrapped Sunday.
