Virginia trade group lobbies state government

Posted on

Members of the Virginia Marine Trades Association met with lawmakers at the state Capitol in January during the trade group’s annual Lobby Day.

Organized by the association’s staff and lobbyist team, the event included a morning briefing in the Capitol on legislation important to member businesses. Members were then taken into the General Assembly building to meet with individual senators, delegates and their staffs, where they discussed the impact of the marine industry on the state’s economy.

“One of the biggest values for our members is the ability to come together as an association and lobby our legislators,” trade group president Mark Hildebrandt said in a statement. “This event, held annually, is one of the best ways we can accomplish that goal.”

The trade group says the marine industry in Virginia affects almost 9,000 jobs and has an economic impact of nearly $1 billion.
