American Boating Congress adds speakersPosted on
The 2013 American Boating Congress is continuing its momentum with more confirmed co-hosts and more confirmed speakers for the May 8-9 event in Washington, D.C.
The ABC now has 31 co-host organizations, more than twice the number it had last year, and Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., is the first legislator to commit to speaking, the National Marine Manufacturers Association announced.
Also slated to speak are Frank Peterson of the Recreational Boating and Fishing Foundation; National Ocean Council Office director Deerin Babb-Brott; Coast Guard Rear Adm. Dean Lee; and U.S. News and World Report White House correspondent Ken Walsh.
Co-hosts are continuing their outreach to experts in policy and industry matters to provide the most engaging ABC yet, the NMMA said in its Washington Wave publication, the newsletter covering all things related to boating and legislation.
In addition to the general session, the highlights include many industry meetings. The Boat Trailer Manufacturers Association will host its annual Trailer Round-Up during ABC, bringing together trailer manufacturers as yet another important facet of the industry.
“You are the industry’s most effective advocate,” NMMA spokeswoman Lauren Dunn said in the newsletter. “No lobbyist is as influential as an employer from a member’s district or state. Attending ABC and going on Capitol Hill visits with others from your state is the best way to update your representatives on issues that affect your livelihood and help them to understand your position when voting on issues that affect our industry.”
