NMMA integrates with northern California trade groupPosted on
The National Marine Manufacturers Association recently integrated with the Northern California Marine Association.
The NCMA held a special meeting in December to vote on the merger with the NMMA, which also included an NMMA takeover of the boat show assets, Soundings Trade Only reported at the time. NCMA voting members unanimously approved the integration.
The group’s challenge has been limited resources in this economy, NMMA president Thom Dammrich said in a statement.
The integration is also an effort to grow boating participation across the United States and expand the market for recreational boating. The group will fall under NMMA West, which was recently formed when the national association merged with the Southern California Marine Association last summer, also assuming the production of that group’s three boat shows.
“NMMA continues to look for new and strategic ways to help all segments of the recreational boating industry anticipate, adapt and prosper from changes in the economic landscape,” Dammrich said in a statement. “With NCMA’s integration, we can help devote resources to spur growth of recreational boating in northern California.”
“NMMA’s robust resources, in addition to its role as a leading producer of boat and sport shows, will help us to revitalize shows in northern California and provide our members with growth opportunities,” NCMA president Gary Clausen said in a statement. “We were pleased by the feedback NMMA received from the June 2012 integration with the Southern California Marine Association, and we expect our affiliation to strengthen the boating industry in northern California.”
NCMA members who were not already NMMA members will receive paid NMMA membership as part of the integration through May 31, 2015. To guide the specific needs of new members in northern California, including marine manufacturers, dealers and retailers, the NCMA’s board of directors will become an advisory NMMA board, with representatives appointed to the NMMA West board of directors, which reports to the NMMA board of directors.
