Strictly Sail Pacific, the West Coast’s largest sail-only boat show, is gearing up its special events for the Oakland, Calif., show, which takes place April 11-14.
Here are some of the highlights planned for this year’s show:
VIP day: Guests that purchase a VIP ticket for April 12 will receive a well-stocked West Marine VIP bag, be entered in a free drawing to win prizes and sailing gear and get an invitation to the show’s exclusive after-hours VIP party on the USS Potomac.
Enter to win a Boater’s Dream Vacation: A two-person, eight-day, seven-night vacation to the British Virgin Islands will be donated by the British Virgin Islands Tourist Board and the Bitter End Yacht Club. The package includes three meals daily; use of the Bitter End’s vast club fleet, which is composed of more than 100 boats; snorkel excursions; sailing school 101; weekly regattas; and standard air fare for two. Prize value is about $10,000. Guests can enter at booth No. 404.
America’s Cup: Those who visit the America’s Cup Pavilion will be able to learn more about this year’s race and view America’s Cup gear, as well as the official America’s Cup trophy, “The Auld Mug.” The trophy will be on display April 13 and 14 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Fun Zone: Activities will include a rock-climbing wall, a slide and a bungequad-pod.
The Cruiser’s Party, April 13 at 7 p.m.: Bob Bitchin and Jody Lipkin of Cruising Outpost created the Cruiser’s Party at Strictly Sail Pacific, an annual celebration of the cruising lifestyle. Eric Stone will be live and in concert and there will be beer, wine, soft drinks and pizza. There also will be a raffle with prizes that include a $6,000 Spectra Ventura 150 Watermaker, a $5,500 one-week Dream Yacht Charter on a 40-foot catamaran in Tahiti, and a WinchRite electric winch handle from Sailology. Proceeds from the raffle will benefit San Francisco’s Call of The Sea. The event is free and open to all show attendees and exhibitors.
Pacific Cup Mai Tai Party, April 12, 5 to 7 p.m.: Attendees can visit the Pacific Cup booth for a round of mai tais, talk to race veterans and size up the competition.
Baja Ha-Ha, Pacific Puddle Jump and Circumnavigators’ Reunion, April 12, 6-8 p.m.: The crew of Latitude 38 invites all Baja Ha-Ha veterans, Pacific Puddle Jump vets and West Coast Circumnavigators, and anyone who wishes they were, or hopes to be someday, for a reunion party at Latitude 38′s Strictly Sail Pacific booth No. 219-221. Latitude 38 will bring snacks and beverages.
