Yacht & Brokerage Show reports boost in displays

This year’s Yacht & Brokerage Show in Miami Beach was the largest in the show’s 25-year history, organizers announced.

Every February, the Collins Avenue event attracts thousands of people from around the world. This year, with boats of all sizes valued in excess of $1 billion, in addition to a wide selection of marine accessories, organizers reported a strong show overall, with the total in-water count of boats up 16 percent from 2012.

The largest increase was seen in the 105- to 125-foot category, with a 58 percent increase in the number of yachts on display, necessitating a northward expansion of the show’s footprint on Indian Creek. The 80- to 104-foot category saw an increase of 31 percent from 2012, and boats less than 49 feet were up 23 percent from 2012.

“We expanded the show’s footprint to the north this year to keep up with exhibitor demand,” Efrem “Skip” Zimbalist III, CEO of show co-owner Show Management and Active Interest Media, said in a statement. (AIM also owns Soundings Trade Only.) “Exhibitor displays looked fantastic and it was obvious by the impressive inventory that everyone was ready to do business.”

The show featured more than 500 new and used vessels and an extensive variety of related goods and services. Attendees also enjoyed educational seminars, live music and refreshments.

“The feedback I have heard so far from our members has been extremely positive,” Ann Vernon, executive director of the Florida Yacht Brokers Association, which co-owns the show, said in a statement. “Some of our member companies have said that it was their best boat show in years. Good, buying clients showed up despite the variety of weather conditions we had.”
