Brunswick cuts asking price for North Carolina plant

Posted on

Brunswick Corp. slashed the price for a boatbuilding plant near Wilmington, N.C., that has been mothballed since 2008 from $20 million to $10 million.

Brunswick bought the former Rampage Sport Fishing Yachts manufacturing facility in Navassa, N.C., in 2007, planning to ramp up the production of high-end yachts and cruisers 45 feet and larger, according to a local business journal.

The plan qualified Brunswick for a Jobs Development Investment Grant from the North Carolina Department of Commerce in 2007 that could have been worth $4.6 million over 10 years if the company had followed through with its commitment to create 858 jobs and invest $51.2 million in Navassa, according to the Triangle Business Journal.

The company was employing about 270 workers when the plant was closed in October 2008.
