The Marine Industries Association of South Florida, the group that owns the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, announced some schedule changes.

The MIASF made the announcement Monday in tandem with the International Superyacht Society, show producer Show Management, SeaKeepers and the Superyacht Builders Association, all stakeholders in the show, changing the dates of events that have long been fixtures of the show.

The changes are as follows:

• ISS Annual Gala for Design & Leadership — now Wednesday, Oct. 30, from 7 p.m. at the Design Center of the Americas (formerly Thursday evening)

• Superyacht Builders Association’s Florida Sunset Event as part of “The Superyacht Experience” — now Thursday, Oct. 31, from 6-9 p.m. (formerly Wednesday evening)

• SeaKeepers Founders Dinner — now Thursday, Oct. 31, from 7-10 p.m. at the Lauderdale Yacht Club (formerly Wednesday evening)

“ISS, SYBAss, MIASF, SeaKeepers and Show Management are working cooperatively on a variety of initiatives for the benefit of our combined members, customers and stakeholders,” acting MIASF executive director Carlos Vidueira said in a statement. “Today, we are pleased to announce a realignment of key FLIBS events in a manner that better serves the needs of our industry.”

I think the whole show should move to the middle of November, getting further away from the hurricane season which has hampered the show in the past. It would also allow for the yachts to complete their yard periods before heading south for the winter season. Most of the time the yachts hurry to get out of the yard, go to the show, then go back into the yard to finish up before the winter season. A bit later would be a bit better for me !
