National Hunting and Fishing Day names chairman

Posted on

In recognition of his conservation efforts and continuous efforts to improve traditional outdoor sports, Bill Dance is serving as honorary chairman of National Hunting and Fishing Day, which is set for Sept. 28.

Congress established the event to recognize hunters and anglers for leadership in fish and wildlife conservation. Since it launched in 1971, the day has been formally proclaimed by every U.S. president and countless governors and mayors. Growing up in a small Tennessee town, Dance never dreamed that small world would shape the man he is today. Valuable lessons learned while spending time on the water and in the woods with his father and grandfather shaped his core beliefs.

Dance joins an elite fraternity of country stars, professional athletes, entertainers and outdoor personalities who have helped build National Hunting and Fishing Day, including Hank Williams Jr., Travis Tritt, Jeff Foxworthy, Tony Stewart and Boone Pickens.

“My granddaddy and my daddy taught me to take what you needed and put back what you didn’t,” Dance said in a statement. “That was the earliest recollection I had of conserving wildlife. It didn’t matter if you could shoot more pheasant or take more fish; all we took is what was needed. It was basic conservation.”

Growing up with his grandfather’s fishing tutelage and his father’s firearms expertise, Dance grew his love and passion for outdoor sports. However, his first love is fishing.
