Popular speaker will return to dealer conference

The Marine Retailers Association of the Americas announced in its newsletter that popular speaker Sam Dantzler is returning to the 2013 Marine Dealer Conference & Expo in November.

Several dealers at last year’s conference told Trade Only Today that Dantzler was their favorite speaker and feedback showed he was the highest-rated speaker in the history of the dealer conference, the newsletter said.

The 13-year veteran of the motorcycle industry, who is a noted moderator for Harley-Davidson 20 Groups and Triumph Motorcycles, will present two sessions. “Pay Plans that Deliver Real Results” will outline how dealers can develop incentive-based pay plans across their dealership to help improve performance and drive up profitability. “The True Math of Discounting and Upselling” focuses on helping salespeople understand how discounting products and neglecting to up-sell can hurt the bottom line.

“We obviously are very thrilled to bring Sam back and to be able to offer his expertise to our attendees,” MRAA membership and education director Liz Walz said in a statement. The MRAA co-produces the dealer conference with Boating Industry magazine.

The conference will take place Nov. 17-20 at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Fla.

In other news, the MRAA announced that Platinum Partner Membership is on the rise. Most recently, Bank of the West and the National Marine Distributors Association have demonstrated their focus on dealer support by committing to the top-tier membership status, the MRAA said in its newsletter.

    The Water Resources Development Act (WRDA) this week passed the Senate (S.601) will now open to use (public-private partnerships.) A pilot program will “attract new investment capital to infrastructure projects, “Lock and Dams” and that investment will generating revenue streams for – “domestic or-foreign companies” through user (Fees) or other dedicated funding sources the user will have to pay to move through a Lock and dam run by a (public-private partnership) company on the Mississippi and Illinois rivers and other river systems.

    Questions for The Marine Retailers Association:

    • How much will that “Fee” be for a recreational boat to go through a (public-private partnership) Lock and Dams?
    • How will that affect the Business of– marinas and boatyards– between Lock and Dam pools?
    • Will those new “Fees” be added to and collected by other river systems Lock and dams ?
