AMI plans first Patriot Marina Day eventPosted on
Public and private marinas across the nation, as well as marine industry companies, are participating in the inaugural Patriot Marina Day, to be held during the Independence Day weekend.
The Association of Marina Industries is partnering with the Folds of Honor Foundation for Patriot Marina Day, which will help fund educational scholarships for the families of those killed or disabled while serving the country.
Sea Ray, Suntex, World-Class Fireworks, Bollé and Fireade also agreed to partner with Folds of Honor.
From July 4-7, marinas are encouraged to request a minimum donation of $1 per guest. Patrons can also text USA to 80888 to donate $10 to Folds of Honor.
The marina industry is proud to support Folds of Honor and our nations military families, AMI chairman Gary Groenewold said in a statement. Our goal is to celebrate successful Patriot Marina Day events across the country and continue to build on this tradition each year.
Since its inception in 2007, Folds of Honor has raised more than $25 million and awarded more than 3,800 educational scholarships to the families of fallen or wounded soldiers. As of January 2012, more than a million dependents have been affected by the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Of these, 87 percent do not qualify for federal scholarship assistance.
With the support of the marina industry, boating and water recreation enthusiasts across the country will be inspired to help our nations heroes and participate in the first Patriot Marina Day, Folds of Honor founder Maj. Dan Rooney said in a statement. Each participating marina, along with its patrons, will make an incredible impact on the military families that need our support.
Patriot Marina Day is patterned after Patriot Golf Day, a national promotion held during the Labor Day weekend and supported by The PGA of America and the United States Golf Association. During Patriot Golf Day Weekend, golfers are asked to donate at least $1 for each round of golf at participating facilities nationwide.
