Anglers thrown off boat near Florida coast

Posted on

Two Florida shark anglers escaped unhurt Monday after falling off a boat about two miles off St. Petersburg Pier.

The unmanned boat went in circles for at least a half hour before running out of fuel.

“My buddy was driving and we hit a rogue wave and, boom, it just flipped us. Both of us flew out of the boat like rockets, it was like instantaneous,” Troy Petro told Fox 13 News.

Officers say the accident was likely caused by operator inexperience as the man driving the boat only had about 10 hours of experience behind the wheel.

He said he was driving because Petro, the boat owner, had been drinking.
