Discover Boating hits Facebook milestone

Posted on

Discover Boating’s Facebook page recently passed the 600,000-fan threshold, gaining about 70,000 followers in the last four months. This morning, the page had 604,133 likes and more than 20,000 people talking about it.

That’s according to National Marine Manufacturers Association spokeswoman Ellen Hopkins, who says that although the group is reaching a youthful audience, a breakdown of age and gender demographics shows the fans are grounded in the core customer age group.

The 55- to 64-year-old age group is “nicely represented at nearly 10 percent of our audience,” Hopkins told Trade Only Today in an email.

The largest two age groups are the 25- to 34-year-old age group and the 35- to 44-year-old group, which account for 43.3 percent of the page’s fans combined.

At a State of the Industry breakfast at the Progressive Insurance Miami International Boat Show in February, NMMA president Thom Dammrich said the page had roughly 530,000 fans.

The Discover Boating Facebook page has been so successful that Facebook did a case study on the group to figure out how it was able to grow so fast.
