New Jersey trade group hands out scholarships

Posted on

The Marine Trades Association of New Jersey Foundation awarded two education scholarships to students pursuing careers in the marine industry.

This is the eighth year that the association was able to award scholarships to deserving students. A $1,500 MTA/NJ scholarship was awarded to Bryce Tocci of Brick, N.J. Tocci has lived on the water his whole life and has repaired his own boats for many years. He is graduating this month from Brick Township High School and Ocean County Vocational-Technical School and will be enrolling in the Marine Mechanics Institute in Orlando, Fla.

In addition to MTA/NJ’s education scholarship, the Automotive Training Center in Warminster, Pa., sponsored a half-scholarship to its marine technician program. The recipient of that scholarship was William Dominguez of Toms River. Dominguez is graduating from Toms River High School South as well as Ocean County Vocational-Technical School, Toms River Center. After he completes his training, he plans to move back to Toms River and pursue a career in the marine field.

The MTA/NJ also awarded two outstanding student awards for the purchase of tools for the trade. Tocci and William Calton, from the Monmouth County Vocational School, were the recipients.

The MTA/NJ Foundation was established to help promote boating safety and education and to award education scholarships to encourage education and professional development in the marine trades.

“All of these individuals have worked hard to pursue their goals and have demonstrated their dedication to the future of the marine trades industry. We are very fortunate and thankful to all of our supporters who enable us to award these scholarships to these deserving students,” MTA/NJ executive director Melissa Danko said in a statement.
