Storm postpones Jersey shark tournament

Posted on Written by Michael LaBella

Tropical Storm Andrea, which is making its way up the East Coast, has caused the postponement of the 33rd Annual South Jersey Shark Tournament by a week.

The footprint for what organizers say is the oldest and richest shark tournament in New Jersey will remain the same, commencing with the Captain’s Meeting on June 13 at 6 p.m. The location will remain South Jersey Marina in Cape May, and the format, prize categories and calcuttas are also unchanged.

Although it is not a factor in the postponement, organizers believe the delay will result in warmer water and an increase in the bite.

Tournament questions should be directed to the director, Bob Glover, at (609) 884-2400. Slip reservations and bait order placements can be made by calling the dockmaster at the same phone number.

GIVEN THE DIRE STATE THE SHARK POPULATION IS IN…THIS EGO MASTURBATION TOURNEMENT SHOULD HAVE BEEN SUNK YEARS AGO

JOHN ENNIS, YOU ASK FOR COMMENTS ABOUT A DIRE STATE OF THE SHARK POPULATION, YET YOU PROVIDE NO VERIFIED STATISTICS.

I HAVE FISHED THE SO. JERSEY SHARK TOURNAMENT MANY TIMES. THESE ARE RESPONSIBLE EXPERIENCED ANGLERS THAT RELEASE UNDERSIZE AND ACCIDENTAL CATCH OF OTHER FISH.

THIS TOURNAMENT HAS LITTLE IMPACT ON THE STATE OF STATE THE SHARK POPULATION. WHY DO YOU INSULT ANGLERS IN A MARINE PUBLICATION AND EXPECT SUPPORT? SHAME ON YOU.

THEY HAVE DONE MUCH TO EDUCATE THE GENERAL BOATING PUBLIC
    ABOUT SALT WATER CONSERVATION.
