Westlawn Institute receives scholarship donationPosted on
The Westlawn Institute of Marine Technology said it has received an additional $30,000 from the Kathy & Jerry Wood Foundation for the school’s grant and scholarship program.
The Eastport, Maine, school said the extended grant money will enable the school to continue to provide the most substantial grant and scholarship program it has ever offered.
“The connections between Westlawn Institute, [the American Boat and Yacht Council] and the history and goals of Kathy and Jerry Wood are remarkable,” Kathy & Jerry Wood Foundation president Sallie Hamrick said in a statement. “Not only are both organizations dedicated to boating and education, but also to enhancing boating safety and to encouraging our nation’s youth to pursue the enjoyment of boating and careers in the boating industry.”
Students who are U.S. citizens and meet Westlawn admission requirements are eligible for a $1,500 grant toward their tuition in Module 1 in the full Yacht & Boat Design program or toward the tuition for the Elements of Technical Boat Design course. Students may be awarded either $1,500 for a GPA of 90 percent or above or $1,000 for a GPA of 85 to 89 percent.
