Hinckley Yachts adds IPS optionPosted on
The builder that pioneered waterjet propulsion announced that Volvo Pentas IPS pod drives will be an option for its 2014 product line.
We felt strongly that it was time to offer boaters the option of choosing which system works best for their style of boating, Hinckley president and CEO Jim McManus said in a statement. The jets will remain our standard, but optionally IPS is now offered on the Talaria 48 and Picnic Boat, and will be offered on future models.
Hinckley has selected the IPS450 system for the Picnic Boat, which is expected to deliver a 33-knot cruise speed and 37-knot top end. The pods will add about a foot to the boats standard 25-inch draft.
The jet-powered Picnic Boat will now be powered with twin Yanmar 8LV-370s. Cruising speed with that power is expected to be 32 knots, with a top end of 34.
