Love Boat makes her farewell voyagePosted on
The MS Pacific, the 554-foot cruise ship made famous in the popular 1970s television show “The Love Boat,” has sailed its final voyage, to a ship-breaking yard on Turkey’s Aegean coast.
Known as the Pacific Princess on the show, the 13,500-ton ship will be stripped for its metal and parts, Ersin Ceviker, of the Ship Recyclers’ Association of Turkey, told Reuters.
“This ship has undergone several modifications over its lifespan. It had been decommissioned for five years, and renovation now would have been too costly,” Ceviker said.
Turkey’s Izmir Ship Recycling Co. acquired the 42-year-old vessel for $3.3 million.
The cruise liner arrived in Aliaga, Turkey, this week after a difficult trip in a storm, Ceviker said. She began taking on water and required the help of additional tugboats to get it into port and is reportedly listing.
