New York show adds fall event as part of expansion

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced that the Progressive Insurance New York Boat Show will expand and a fall show will be added in an effort to boost the industry’s recovery from Hurricane Sandy.

The NMMA-produced show is expanding at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in Manhattan and the dates will be restored to the traditional mid- to late-January schedule from 2015 to 2019.

The NMMA also secured September dates at the Javits Center from 2014 to 2019 for the fall show.

“We are excited to also announce plans for an annual fall boat show for local businesses to exhibit their latest products and equipment over the next few years,” Cuomo said in a statement. “Last year, Superstorm Sandy damaged marinas and destroyed thousands of boats in New York, so these events will be significant in steering the industry towards a full recovery.”

The New York show’s mid- to late-January date has become a “much-anticipated tradition” for local boaters and their families, NMMA executive vice president Ben Wold said.

“We’re thrilled to return the show to its original timeframe and applaud Gov. Cuomo for recognizing the economic value of recreational boating to New York and for his commitment to expanding tourism and outdoor recreation throughout the state,” Wold said in a statement.
