Two boats participating in the White Marlin Open rescued two men and recovered the bodies of two others Monday after a 28-foot catamaran capsized near Ocean City, Md.

Anglers aboard the sportfishing boat Lori M contacted Coast Guard Sector Hampton Roads at approximately 9 a.m. reporting a catamaran had capsized 32 miles northeast of Ocean City with four people aboard, according to a Coast Guard release.

The crew of Just Right Five, also participating in the Ocean City-based White Marlin Open, rescued two men, both 55 , who were responsive.

An MH-65 Dolphin helicopter from Air Station Atlantic City, N.J., arrived on scene and deployed a rescue swimmer who, with the help of crew aboard Lori M, recovered the other two men, ages, 53 and 65. Both were unresponsive and were brought aboard Lori M.

Both fishing boats were escorted to shore by a 47 Motor Lifeboat. The boat that capsized reportedly was not participating in the tournament.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the family members and loved ones of those recovered this morning,” Capt. John Little, commander of Coast Guard Sector Hamptons Roads, said in a statement. “We sincerely appreciate the efforts of the good Samaritans who acted quickly to report this and assist the Coast Guard in this rescue.”
