AMI hands out scholarships for trade groups

Posted on

The Association of Marina Industries awarded the Neil Ross Scholarship awards to the Marine Trades Association of New Jersey and the California Association of Harbor Masters and Port Captains to be given to two people that the organizations believe most deserve the funds.

The New Jersey trade group chose executive director Melissa Danko to receive the award and attend the International Marina and Boatyard Conference. The California group chose harbor operations manager Mick Kronman, who will attend advanced marina manager training.

“Melissa leads our association in such a way that she has earned the respect of not only our members, but the leaders of the marine industry around the country,” MTA/NJ president Frederick Brueggermann said in a statement. “The devastation to the marine industry caused by Superstorm Sandy was unprecedented. While continuing with her regular duties Melissa has guided us in the creation and implementation of a special relief fund, a program to assist those members that were most affected by the storm.”

“Mick, like many, has had some challenges over the last few years, but he has always faced them with a positive and can-do attitude,” California association board member Brad Gross said in a statement. “Furthermore, Mick is a model of the type of professional we all believe should represent our industry as a certified marina manager.”

The Neil Ross Scholarship was created to recognize numerous contributions that Ross has made to the AMI and the marina industry. The award is given annually to provide financial assistance for training.
