Florida company uses ultrasonic sound on hull bottoms

Posted on

Sonic Armor LLC, a Florida-based company, said it completed tests on the effectiveness of using ultrasonic sound to eliminate barnacles and algae on boats.

The company said the Navy developed the idea and has successfully used it for years. Using modern methods and new updated technology, Sonic Armor said it developed a unit that is small and easy to install.

“My husband would spend hours under our 42-foot Sea Ray scraping off the barnacles,” Ellen Sherwood of MarineMax Pompano said in a statement. “Sonic Armor has allowed us to spend more time on the boat and enjoying our weekends. We have had the Sonic Armor product for almost two years, and think it is the best investment we have made for the boat.”
