Former Pac West Marketing co-owner killed in robberyPosted on
Lawrence Howse, the former co-owner of Seattle-based Pac West Marketing, was shot and killed in a parking garage robbery Saturday night, according to managing partner Jess Nelson. He was 54.
“We are so very sad to be contacting you in regards to our longtime friend, Larry Howse,” Nelson said in an email. “Larry was a victim of a random attack this weekend, being shot and killed in an apparent robbery as he entered his property.”
Police told The (Washington) News Tribune that the fatal shooting was the result of a robbery gone wrong. Howse arrived home at the Sky Terrace Condominiums, entered his code to open the door to the private garage and pulled his black BMW inside. That’s when detectives believe two men slid under the door to gain access to the garage.
Howse had been active in the Northwest boating community since the early 1980s, according to the Pac West Marketing website.
He began his career at Cal Marine in 1983 and later moved to West Marine, where he was involved in store management, special events, merchandizing and display management.
In 1999 he teamed with Jess Nelson, and together they established Pac-West Marketing, which is a marine manufacturer’s representative group for the western United States and British Columbia. The company services boatbuilders, marine distributors and mass merchants in addition to sporting goods distributors and retailers.
Pac West touts itself as being a market-driven company working together as a group to better serve the demands of the marine market.
“As can be imagined, this violent and unexpected shock and loss is greatly affecting Larry’s family,” Nelson said.
A service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church in Tacoma, Wash., Nelson said.
