NMMA touts industry opportunities in Colombia

Posted on

After a visit to Colombia, the National Marine Manufacturers Association is encouraging members to explore business opportunities in the South American country’s emerging marine industry.

In July, NMMA president Thom Dammrich and export director Julie Balzano, together with representatives of the U.S. Superyacht Association and the Florida Yacht Brokers Association, visited Colombia to explore its recreational boating industry and marine resources and seek potential business opportunities for NMMA members.

Colombia, which has the fourth-largest economy in Latin America and, at 46 million, the third-largest population, has a track record of steady economic development and is primed for international growth and a thriving marine industry, the NMMA said.

The NMMA plans to host a U.S. pavilion at the next Cartagena Boat Show (only the second in the country’s history), which is scheduled for March 22-24, 2014, at the Cartagena Convention Center.

“U.S. boatbuilders benefit from preferential currency exchange rates, along with a free trade agreement, so the timing couldn’t be more perfect to engage with this market,” Balzano said.

Companies interested in learning more about the Colombia marine industry and participating in the Cartagena Boat Show should contact Balzano at jbalzano@nmma.org or (954) 441-3234.
