Gov. Martin O’Malley appointed the National Marine Manufacturers Association to serve on a Maryland Boating Enhancement Task Force.

The NMMA was appointed to the task force to study enhancing boating and the boating industry in Maryland, the group announced.

As required by Senate Bill 90, members of the task force will evaluate options and make recommendations for enhancing boating and growing the industry. The task force will consider the effect of modifying the state vessel excise tax rate and boat registration fees.

In addition, it is tasked with considering incentives for boaters to register in the state and use marinas and boatyards for recreation, repair and outfitting; the expenditure and use of the Waterway Improvement Fund; the impact of decreased state and federal spending on boating access; and the costs and needs of maintaining and improving public boating infrastructure and boating safety.

The task force is required to submit a report of its findings and recommendations to O’Malley by Sept. 1, 2015.
