John Deere unveils new line of marine enginesPosted on
John Deere Power Systems is introducing a marine engine lineup from 74 to 559 kW — or 99 to 750 hp — that it says will meet the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Marine Tier 3 emissions regulations.
New PowerTech 9.0L and 13.5L Tier 3 propulsion and generator-drive engines will join the previously announced 4.5L and 6.8L Tier 3 models, offering customers a range of choices for commercial and recreational applications.
The company said John Deere Tier 3 marine engines meet current European Union emissions requirements for propulsion engines used on recreational crafts and inland waterway vessels. They also meet current limits established by International Maritime Organization MARPOL Annex VI, the company said.
The PowerTech 6090AFM85, PowerTech 6090SFM85, PowerTech 6135AFM85 and PowerTech 6135SFM85 propulsion and generator-drive engines are the latest additions to the John Deere Tier 3 lineup. Tier 3 regulations affecting these 9.0L and 13.5L engines take effect in 2014.
“John Deere 9.0L and 13.5L Tier 3 marine engines offer customers hassle-free replacement options,” John Deere North American engine sales manager Carl Micu said in a statement. “Our larger Tier 2 marine engines were developed with Tier 3 emissions regulations in mind, allowing us to transition to Tier 3 without significant hardware changes. These engines will provide customers with a similar package and performance while meeting the more stringent regulations.”
