Grady-White boat show set for today in North Carolina

Posted on

Grady-White Boats is holding a boat show today to demonstrate how it stayed afloat during the Great Recession.

The company has invited the public to visit the Greenville (N.C.) Convention Center to see the largest display of models it has ever had, according to WITN Channel 7 News.

“We saw literally 50 percent declines. That makes you question where we’re going,” Park Boat Co. owner and Grady-White dealer Austin Smithwick told the station. “We’re very happy. It seems we turned the corner. We’re selling a lot of boats and that’s a good thing for our business and the local eastern Carolina economy because there’s a lot of boatbuilders in our area.”

Grady-White marketing director Shelley Tubaugh told the station that the company has about 200 employees, down from a pre-recession high of about 350. But Tubaugh says the company is hiring again.
