Marquis Yachts signs deal to build Dutch company’s boats

Posted on

Marquis Yachts signed an agreement with Dutch yacht builder VanDutch Marine Ltd. to become the company’s sole manufacturer of all of its yachts sold worldwide.

Starting this month, Marquis will build all VanDutch models, including its 30-foot, 40-foot, 40-foot Walk-Around, 45-foot, 55-foot and its new 70-foot VanDutch Yacht, which will be launched globally in the first quarter of 2014, at the Marquis factory in Pulaski, Wis.

The company plans to hire 70 new employees immediately and expects that number to grow to 150 in the near future, Marquis president Robert VanGrunsven said in a statement.

“Contract manufacturing is very prevalent in Europe,” VanGrunsven told the Green Bay Post Gazette. “We have an agreement we believe that is going to go for several years and we’re looking forward to it.”

The deal has been in the works for about three months, he told the paper, adding that VanDutch production tools and fixtures will be moved from Europe to Pulaski.

“It’s incredibly impressive with the success and retail demand that VanDutch has had in selling their unique and beautiful yachts around the world in such a short period of time, particularly throughout the global marine industry’s downturn,” VanGrunsven said in a statement. “Clearly, VanDutch has become the global marine industry’s most impressive and greatest success story in record time.”

“We are extremely impressed with the level of Marquis’ yacht-building sophistication, along with its dedicated workforce throughout its Pulaski, Wis., campus,” VanDutch America CEO Anko Mast said in a statement. “VanDutch has had great success selling its unique and beautiful yachts around the world; we are also impressed with the high quality and success of Marquis yachts, which was one of our main reasons for choosing Marquis to become the exclusive manufacturer for all VanDutch yachts globally.”

VanDutch Marine was founded in 2008. Its first introduction — the VanDutch 40 — rolled out in 2009 and has sold more than 110. The VanDutch 45 and 70 are under construction and will be available in early 2014.

Marquis is a private company owned by John Paul DeJoria and Irwin Jacobs through J&D Acquisitions.

The reporter should be asking why they are no longer associated with S/2 Yachts, Tiara division.
That is the company that has been building VanDutch.
