Texas trade groups honor state legislators

The Boating Trades Association of Texas and Boating Trades Association of Metropolitan Houston will present the 2013 Lone Star Awards for Legislative Excellence to state Sen. John Carona and state Rep. Dan Flynn for legislative efforts on behalf of Texas recreational boating.

The Republican lawmakers effectively sponsored and passed legislation modernizing the sale and financing of recreational boats. The legislation improves business transparency, customer convenience and consumer protection, the groups say.

The awards will be presented Dec. 11 at the Houston area trade group’s annual banquet in Houston.

“We are extremely grateful for the leadership and vision of Rep. Flynn and Sen. Carona and their steadfast commitment to enhancing outdoor recreation in Texas,” Houston area trade group president Ken Lovell said in a statement.

“Their efforts this session enable Texas dealers to continue improving transactional services in the sale of recreational boats, which in turn facilitates access to our state’s abundant lakes and waters,” he said.

“We also appreciate Gov. [Rick] Perry, Lt. Gov. [David] Dewhurst and [House] Speaker [Joe] Straus for their foresight on this issue and their efforts to keep Texas a great place for small businesses to prosper and grow.”
